Low Edge Effect Plate

In many assays using a 96-well microplate, researchers sometimes encounter unexpected O.D. (optical density) readings due to temperature differences between the outer and central wells. This phenomenon, known as the “edge effect,” is primarily caused by evaporation from the outer wells.
To mitigate the edge effect, some researchers leave the outer wells empty (blank). However, this approach sacrifices 36 out of the 96 wells – significantly limiting assay flexibility and reducing cost efficiency.
The edge effect can be minimized by preventing evaporation from the outer wells.
CSCRIE’s 96-well Low Edge Plate features a water-absorbent sheet with suction guide holes, which helps reduce the impact of the edge effect.
We also offer a Bottomless Type, which is very unique in the market.
This allows researchers to conduct assays using their preferred bottom material while maintaining a low edge effect.

Added 100 μL of 0.01% crystal violet solution to the wells. Then, 900 μL of sterile distilled water (total volume: 1.8 mL) was added to the guide holes surrounding the porting area of the Low Edge Effect Plate. The plate was incubated in a CO₂ incubator for 4 days and measured using a microplate reader at a wavelength of 600 nm.
